A 27-year-old man found injured near the Igoumenitsa cycle path last night has admitted to fatally stabbing his 25-year-old partner, according to police sources.
Shortly after 9:40 p.m., he called the police, claiming that unidentified masked individuals had attacked them both. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the 25-year-old dead and the 27-year-old injured a short distance away.
According to the same sources, his initial account of an attack by third parties began to unravel as the evidence and the nature of his injuries did not match what he had told police over the phone. During questioning, after being confronted with inconsistencies in his account, he reportedly admitted to attacking his partner. He said the incident was triggered by a financial dispute, claiming that he “lost control” and had not intended to kill her.
This is the 15th femicide in Greece in 2026. The Greek section of the European Observatory on Femicide (EOF) had recorded 14 cases as of August 26.
The 27-year-old then showed police where he had discarded the knife, which was seized and is being examined for fingerprints and DNA. He remains in hospital under police guard, while police are also investigating how he sustained his injuries, including whether they were linked to an attempt to present himself as a victim.
As of August 26, the Greek section of the European Observatory on Femicide (EOF) had recorded 14 femicides in Greece in 2026. If this case is added to its records, it will be the 15th.
