The divide between the IDF and Netanyahu widens as six former and current generals of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), speaking to the “NYT,” call for a “ceasefire” in Gaza, even if Hamas remains in power for the time being.

The prime minister rejected the scenario of initiating a ceasefire in Gaza while Hamas remains in power, saying that the military has all the means to achieve Israel’s war goals, namely the liberation of the hostages and the destruction of Hamas.

The deputy leader of Lebanon’s Hezbollah stated that the organization will stop its attacks if a ceasefire is implemented in Gaza.

The generals believe that stopping the fighting, whether through “ceasefire”, “truce”, or “pause” is the best approach to secure the release of the 120 hostages. Many of them also expressed concerns that the military is not sufficiently equipped to sustain the prolonged conflict, which is the longest in decades, particularly amidst escalating tensions with Hezbollah.

According to the report, whether the military leadership has privately communicated its views to the prime minister remains unclear. However, in recent months, the IDF has occasionally publicly expressed dissatisfaction, primarily regarding the absence of a post-war governance plan for Gaza, which could potentially lead Israel in what they describe as a “forever war”.
