The Iran-aligned Houthis have taken control of the Yemeni port city of Mokha and expanded along the Red Sea coast in their conflict with Yemen’s government, which is backed by Saudi Arabia, a US ally.
If the Houthis strengthen their position further in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, the southern gateway to the Red Sea, they could further restrict oil exports, as Saudi Arabia has relied on this route since the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
The Houthis, who are allied with Iran, have taken control of the Yemeni port city of Mokha and expanded along the Red Sea coast as part of their conflict with Yemen’s government, which is backed by Saudi Arabia, a US ally.
Yemeni government military sources also said the Houthis had further strengthened their position around the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, the southern gateway to the Red Sea and one of the world’s most important shipping routes, and had reached the Hanish Islands.
After entering the war with an attack on Israel in March, the Houthis declared a naval blockade of Saudi Arabia in July and stepped up their attacks this month.
This comes as D. Trump said yesterday that he expects the war with Iran to end after the US midterm elections in November.
If the Houthis strengthen their position further around the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, they could further restrict oil exports, as Saudi Arabia has relied on this route since the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
This could also make it more difficult for Donald Trump to find a way out of a war that has hurt his Republican Party’s electoral prospects ahead of the November midterm elections.
Meanwhile, Trump said yesterday that he expects the war with Iran to end after the US midterm elections.
