Hamas announced that the release of the 3 Israeli hostages, scheduled for Saturday, will proceed as planned, as mediators (Qatar, Egypt) assured them they would work to “remove all obstacles.”
Hamas had previously announced the indefinite postponement of the hostages’ release, accusing Israel of violating key terms of the agreement. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump then threatened to resume hostilities.
With Hamas’s commitment to uphold the agreement, the path is currently clear for the continuation of the ceasefire, though its future remains uncertain.
The release of the 3 hostages in exchange for the release of Palestinians is part of the ceasefire agreement.
Hamas stated that its delegation held talks in Cairo with Egyptian officials and contacted the Prime Minister of Qatar to increase the entry of tents, medical supplies, fuel, and debris removal equipment into Gaza.
Egyptian state television reported that Egypt and Qatar were able to resolve the differences between Israel and Hamas. These two countries have been key mediators with Hamas and facilitated the ceasefire agreement, which took effect in January, 15 months after the war.
