Greek wine production is expected to reach 1.67 million hectolitres in the 2026/2027 season, a slight increase of 1.2% from the previous year, when output stood at 1.65 million hectolitres.

According to the latest European Commission figures presented by the Central Cooperative Union of Wine Products (KEOSOE), the increase is expected despite the high temperatures and heatwaves recorded in several European regions over the summer.

The projected increase in Greece is modest, amounting to around 20,000 hectolitres compared with the previous season. This is in line with the broader stability expected in European wine production, although some countries are forecast to see much sharper changes.

Significant increases are forecast for Portugal (+12%) and Romania (+32.5%), while Hungary (-42%) and Austria (-32%) are expected to record steep declines.

Meanwhile, total EU wine production is expected to remain virtually unchanged at 139.2 million hectolitres. However, a significant rise in wine stocks in the largest producing countries is raising concerns about future prices.

EU wine production for the 2026/2027 season is estimated at 139,184,443 hectolitres, with Italy remaining the bloc’s largest producer. Italian output is projected at 41.12 million hectolitres, down 7.6% from 44.49 million hectolitres in 2025. Spain ranks second, with estimated production of 37.6 million hectolitres, according to the European Commission.

In France, the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Agriculture forecasts production of 33.86 million hectolitres, compared with the 34.9 million hectolitres announced on October 7 by French statistical agency Agreste.
