The government and the opposition clashed today in Parliament, with Kyriakos Mitsotakis arguing that issues such as wiretapping and OPEKEPE do not concern society.
The Prime Minister stressed that the discussion is focused on “smaller and less important” matters, instead of “big and serious” ones, such as the war in Iran, which threatens the Greek economy, and he attacked the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, calling on it to prove its “neutrality.”
Regarding the wiretapping scandal, he noted that the issue has been judged in two electoral contests.
Addressing PASOK, he stated that clientelism in Greece was not discovered in 2019 and complained that PASOK, as he said, did not find a single word to say about banning access to social media for children under 16.
The debate is taking place under the Rule of Parliament, “on the state of the rule of law, institutions, and the functioning of Parliament in Greece.”
For his part, Nikos Androulakis called for Mitsotakis’ resignation and elections, arguing that the “country is in an unprecedented institutional and values crisis,” and accused him of covering up “your personal favor, Makarios Lazaridis, who was being paid by Greek taxpayers despite not having a degree.”
Sokratis Famellos, in his speech, referred to the wiretapping issue, noting that “Predator is Mr. Mitsotakis’ scandal; it is not a private matter,” accusing the Prime Minister of “leading a para-state mechanism, the ‘Truth Group’.”
Finally, he asked Kyriakos Mitsotakis whether he would keep Makarios Lazaridis in the government, following what he described as an indirect admission regarding the allegations about his degree.
