Giannis Antetokounmpo will, barring any unforeseen developments, play for the Miami Heat in the 2026–2027 season after the Heat reached a trade agreement with the Milwaukee Bucks.
The Bucks traded Giannis and Bobby Portis, while the Heat traded Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, three first-round picks in the 2026, 2031, and 2033 NBA Drafts, and one second-round pick in the 2033 Draft.
The Heat are sending Milwaukee unprotected first-round picks for 2031 and 2033, along with the No. 13 overall pick, a 2030 pick-swap right, and a second-round pick in 2033, according to sources.
The NBA Draft takes place every year, with the NBA’s 30 teams selecting new players either from the US college championship or from foreign leagues.
The trade will be finalized on July 6, leaving open the possibility that opportunities to expand the deal with additional teams may be explored. Last June, the Phoenix Suns and the Houston Rockets agreed to a trade that eventually developed into a historic seven-team deal.
Giannis has been with the Bucks since 2013, won an NBA championship with them in 2021, was named NBA MVP in 2019 and 2020, and Finals MVP in 2021. He was selected with the 15th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft and has developed into one of the world’s top players over his 13 seasons in the NBA.
