From yesterday to today, 500 children have been examined at the Children’s Hospital and of these 120 had symptoms of influenza, RSV (respiratory infection) or other seasonal respiratory viruses, according to the president of the Panhellenic Federation of Employees in Public Hospitals (POEDIN), Michalis Giannakos.

At this moment, seven children are hospitalized with influenza and 10 with RSV infection, while waiting times at pediatric hospitals reach three to four hours, a fact which, as stressed in POEDIN’s announcement, highlights the “serious lack of primary care,” since Health Centers have serious staff shortages and private doctors.

He adds that Health Centers, having serious staff shortages, and private doctors send children to hospitals very easily.

The effectiveness of the flu vaccine reaches 55%, something usual for seasonal flu vaccines since the virus mutates very quickly.

He himself recommends that parents ensure that children and they themselves observe the protective measures, masks, vaccination, where recommended by doctors, and the avoidance of overcrowding.

The main symptoms include high fever, dry cough, intense fatigue, muscle pains and digestive disorders.

The effectiveness of the flu vaccine reaches 55%, something usual for seasonal flu vaccines since the virus mutates very quickly, however the vaccine offers strong protection against severe illness.
