Another femicide took place in Agrinio, where a 30-year-old man shot and killed his 43-year-old former partner, a mother of three, last night. The 30-year-old was arrested today.
The perpetrator waited for the woman on a main street in Agrinio and killed her in cold blood. Before being taken by ambulance, she identified him as the attacker. She succumbed to her injuries at Agrinio Hospital after sustaining a point-blank gunshot wound to the abdomen.
The man had weapons in his possession, which were confiscated, according to media reports, after the 43-year-old woman filed a complaint.
After the victim identified the assailant, authorities launched a search and initially located his vehicle in the Myrtia area of Thermo. They later tracked him down through his phone and witness statements, finding him at his family home in Thermo, Aetolia-Acarnania, where he had barricaded himself with a weapon.
He was arrested in the afternoon after being persuaded to surrender following negotiations. His sister was also present in the house; he had confessed to the femicide during a phone call with her the previous evening.
The 30-year-old had previously been arrested for domestic violence on September 6, following the victim’s report that he had threatened her with a knife two days earlier. However, he was released with restrictive conditions, and a court date was set for November 15.
