The situation on the national road network appears smoother compared to yesterday’s queues stretching for kilometers at several points, as farmers’ mobilizations continue.
Yesterday, although farmers opened the roads by moving their tractors to the side, traffic police did not give the “ok” for vehicle traffic to pass between the tractors.
The biggest problem was identified from Boeotia to Fthiotida, however today so far the situation appears to have eased.
Thus, due to heavy traffic congestion, shortly after 17:00 two lanes were opened to traffic at the roadblocks of Amfikleia, Boeotia (Kastro) and Ritsona, as queues stretching for kilometers had been forming for hours since the morning.
On the Hellenic Police website, alternative routes and detours are provided for the entire road network.
At the same time, the lane of the National Highway toward Athens, which had remained closed since the start of the farmers’ mobilizations, was reopened. At Malgara, farmers moved their tractors to the side, facilitating the movement of Christmas holiday travelers.
The Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE) called for the “restoration of normality on the road network,” raising a “matter of survival” for workers and local communities that depend on tourism.
“For winter tourism businesses, the Christmas period constitutes a basic condition for viability. Its loss does not simply represent a temporary damage, but raises a matter of survival, with immediate consequences for thousands of workers and the local communities that depend on their operation,” the SETE statement notes, among other things.
