Farmers are escalating their protests, with nationwide blockades now numbering 50, up from 20 yesterday.

At noon, Supreme Court prosecutor Konstantinos Tzavellas issued an order to prosecutors across the country to intervene in the farmers’ demonstrations with the assistance of the competent police authorities, aiming to ascertain offenses prosecuted ex officio, as well as potential violent crimes against life, attacks on public servants, damage to public property, and unprovoked damage to private property.

This morning, farmers and livestock producers from Heraklion, Rethymno, and Lasithi decided to leave Heraklion Airport. They are expected to reconvene to determine where they will relocate their demonstrations.

According to the Heraklion airport authority, three flights were canceled, two domestic and one international, and 21 flights in total experienced delays.

It should be noted that airport operations were suspended yesterday from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Immediately afterward, for approximately five hours until 11:00 p.m., flights operated normally. Flights from Chania Airport have also been running normally in recent hours.

Producers continue to enforce long-term blockades today at the agricultural checkpoints at Evzoni and Niki on the Greek North Macedonia border, as well as at Promachonas and Exochi on the Greek Bulgaria border, following decisions of their general assemblies.

Tomorrow, farmers from the three major Thessaly blockades, together with fishermen from Magnesia, plan to blockade the port of Volos.

As part of their demonstrations, the farmers are presenting a series of demands directly related to their income and production costs. These include the immediate payment of all subsidies and compensations, guaranteed minimum prices for products that cover actual production costs, a reduction in costs through tax-free fuel at the pump, and a comprehensive revision of the ELGA regulations to ensure 100 percent compensation for production and capital losses from all natural hazards.
