The obesity rate among adults in Cyprus rose to 15.5% in 2025, from 13.8% in 2022, according to data released by Eurostat on Friday.
At the same time, 36.4% of adults in Cyprus were overweight in 2025, with a body mass index (BMI) between 25 and 30, up from 34.6% in 2022.
Overall, more than half of adults in Cyprus were either overweight or obese in 2025.
There was also a significant difference between men and women, with 18.5% of men classified as obese in 2025, compared with 12.7% of women.
The lowest obesity rates were recorded in Italy (7%), Greece (12.8%) and Romania (12.9%).
Across the EU, 16.3% of adults were obese in 2025, with a BMI of 30 or higher. A further 35.4% were overweight, with a BMI between 25 and 30.
Overall, more than half of adults in the EU were overweight or obese.
Among EU member states, Malta had the highest obesity rate at 26.6%, followed by Latvia at 24.6% and Finland at 23.2%. The lowest rates were recorded in Italy at 7%, Greece at 12.8% and Romania at 12.9%.
