The management of Attica TV informed employees yesterday that the station is closing, citing the end of its collaboration with the Municipality of Aspropyrgos at the end of May. The station’s ownership sought a significant reduction in the rent paid to the municipality.[1], [2], [3]
The station’s contract with the Municipality of Aspropyrgos was valid until September 30, 2025, and, according to Efimerida ton Sintakton, the rent was €20,000, with ownership requesting a “verbal” reduction to a quarter, or €4,000.
In total, 60-70 employees worked at Attica TV, and they are expected to receive between 2 and 6 months’ worth of salaries.
The New Left stated in a press release that the closure of Attica TV is a “blow to information, diversity, and democracy.”
During the employee briefing yesterday by the CEO of the group, Giannis Dallos, there were no guarantees that they would be reassigned to other media outlets within the company, such as the ACTION 24 channel and flash.gr.
He told them that “significant effort had been made for the Group to acquire full ownership of the station as part of the strategy to create a unified and strong television brand.”
The information about the channel’s suspension of operations first emerged on Friday, when employees received a notice to be at the station on Monday (May 26) for an official update.
