Part of a two-story apartment building in Germasogeia, Cyprus collapsed on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of two young foreign nationals (whose identities have not been released) and injuries to three other people.

The building had 11 apartments, some of which were available for rent on a short-term rental platform, according to Politis, and housed around 20 residents. Of these, five to six people were inside the building at the time of the collapse—some in the section that remained standing and others in the part that collapsed.

The Limassol District Local Government Organization (EOA) stated that it had declared the building unsafe as early as March and had informed the owners in a timely manner about the need to evacuate and repair it.

The building had 11 apartments (housing around 20 residents), some of which were available for rent on a short-term rental platform, according to Politis.

Specifically, the building was inspected by the EOA Limassol on February 19, 2026, officially declared dangerous on March 10, 2026, and registered letters were sent on March 26 to all owners and the management committee.

The causes of the collapse are still under investigation, with the police taking statements from tenants, owners, and representatives of local government authorities.

“It will be investigated whether there are responsibilities and who bears them. It is far too early to reach final conclusions. If there are responsibilities, they will be assigned,” the police stated.
