Two cases are troubling Cyprus involving two Russian nationals, as an employee of the Russian Embassy in Cyprus, A.V. Panov, was found dead in his office on January 8, and the Russian authorities, who attributed his death to suicide, refused the Cypriot authorities access to the building and cooperation in the investigation.
At the same time, the body was handed over to the Cypriot authorities in the courtyard of the embassy, after they were not allowed to examine the place where A.V. Panov was found dead. The alleged suicide note was neither handed over nor shown to the Cypriot authorities.
Baumgertner had been arrested in 2013 by order of the Belarusian president, amid a “war” between Uralkali and the fertilizer company Belaruskali.
Also, since Saturday, businessman Vladislav Baumgertner, former top executive of the Russian fertilizer company Uralkali, and resident of Cyprus for the last ten years, has been missing.
He himself had been arrested in 2013 by order of the Belarusian president, Alexander Lukashenko, amid a “war” between Uralkali and the fertilizer company Belaruskali. He was later extradited to Russia and placed under house arrest, and the case was closed in 2015. He later took over the leadership of Global Ports and settled in Cyprus.
For the case, the Cyprus Police issued a statement noting that Baumgertner is absent from his place of residence in Limassol. “The 56 year old is described as approximately 1.90 m tall, of slim build, with gray hair. At the time of his departure he was wearing black shorts and a black short sleeved T shirt,” the Cyprus Police statement notes.
