Intensive talks are underway on opening four new crossing points in Cyprus ahead of a trilateral meeting on Monday, 9 November 2026, between Nikos Christodoulides, Tufan Erhürman and UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy María Ángela Holguín.
According to Politis, discussions are focused on crossing points at Mia Milia, Athienou–Pyroi–Aglantzia and Louroujina–Lympia, as well as a new Greek Cypriot proposal for a crossing linking Kambos Tsakkistras and Karavostasi. The proposed crossing, located between the existing Limnitis and Lefka crossings, is being considered as an alternative to the more complex issue of Kokkina.
Holguín is holding a series of meetings with both sides, seeking agreements on the crossing points and additional confidence-building measures that could be announced at the trilateral meeting.
Nine crossing points currently operate between the government-controlled and Turkish-occupied areas along Cyprus’s Green Line.
Erhürman, however, maintains that the crossing points already under negotiation should be addressed before new proposals are considered. He also questioned the feasibility of the 19 proposals put forward by Christodoulides, claiming they had not been submitted to him in writing.
Meanwhile, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is expected to visit the Turkish-occupied north for talks with Erhürman. According to the Turkish Cypriot newspaper Kıbrıs Postası, the visit does not signal a shift in Turkey’s position on the framework for resolving the Cyprus issue.
