The Pancyprian Organization of Grain Producers announced the start of mobilizations with tractors, calling on its members to participate in a protest next Thursday at the House of Europe in Nicosia.

In its statement, the Organization noted that the information released so far, as well as the initial discussions regarding the new framework of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), indicate a shift in the philosophy of direct subsidies, with a gradual reduction of support to farmers.

It pointed out that this development raises serious concerns, as without substantial policy intervention it could have severe consequences for the survival of farmers across Europe, especially in countries like Cyprus, where production conditions are already challenging.

According to the Organization, this situation reduces the effectiveness of support programs.

It also noted that Cypriot farmers have faced serious problems for years, which directly affect the productivity, competitiveness, and sustainability of their agricultural holdings.

The Pancyprian Organization of Grain Producers further emphasized that delays in resolving issues concerning the leasing of state and forest lands, as well as the subleasing of Turkish Cypriot agricultural plots to professional farmers, have led to an inability to disburse subsidies by the Cypriot Agricultural Payments Organization. These subsidies concern payments due from the previous year.

According to the Organization, this situation seriously hampers the economic survival of farmers and reduces the effectiveness of support programs.
