Following the arrest of 29 members of the “Nationalist Youth of Thessaloniki” on May 7th in Thessaloniki, the Counter-Terrorism report maps the 5+1 corresponding far-right organizations across Greece, according to Kathimerini.

First on the list is “Propatria,” which self-identifies as “an effort by young idealistic, radical nationalists… to promote healthy role models.” It operates primarily in Attica through marches, graffiti, posts, banners, and interventions at embassies.

Second is the “Cultural Association Sacred Battalion 2012 – Reservists and Friends of Special Forces,” which presents itself as advocates of “Homeland – Religion – Family” and is mainly active in Thessaloniki and northern Greek cities through public interventions.

Third is the “Hellenic Socialist Resistance – ESA” (reportedly founded years ago by Periandros of Golden Dawn), which holds a National Socialist–Nazi ideology and operates mainly online.

The report indicates that although the conviction of Golden Dawn had (temporarily) led to a decline in the far-right, the groups (while still small in number) have since increased.

Next is “Hellenic Existence/IAXH,” a small group with a National Socialist-Nazi orientation, active in areas of Attica, Thessaloniki, and Thessaly.

Fifth is the “Golden Dawn Youth Front,” the successor to Golden Dawn, with the Counter-Terrorism unit recording an increase in the group’s activity recently and its nearly nationwide operations.

The report concludes with the “Nationalist Youth of Thessaloniki,” active in Thessaloniki, with connections emerging between its members and the organized supporters of PAOK, according to Kathimerini.

The report notes that there is no active terrorist organization in Greece, but the groups operating in the nationalist/far-right space have increased recently, though most are small in number.
