The suspended mayor of Paphos, Phedonas Phedonos, was at the center of a complaint of urban planning nature, which had occupied the Police Directorate of Paphos, following a named complaint of a citizen with allegations of unlawful actions and extortionate behavior.
According to the complaint, the citizen supported that Mr. Phedonos told him that he would not forward to him the already approved urban planning permit for premises that he legally possessed, if he did not withdraw a previous complaint that he had submitted to the Police. As police sources reported, after the completion of the investigative work the file was forwarded to the Legal Service and, following evaluation of the testimony, instructions were given for it to be classified as “Non-Police Nature” (MAPHY).
Phedonas Phedonos rejects categorically the allegations, stating that there was no personal or other interest.
The case concerns property of Turkish Cypriot ownership that had been granted to a refugee citizen of Paphos. He himself had complained since 2021 of illegal interventions and destruction of property, while he supported that, although the urban planning permit had been approved by the competent bodies, it was unjustifiably delayed to be forwarded to him.
Phedonas Phedonos rejects categorically the allegations, stating that there was no personal or other interest and that the actions of the Municipality concerned arbitrary constructions. At the same time, “Phileleftheros” has requested a relevant position from the Legal Service/the Attorney General, which, according to the report itself, is expected in the coming days.
