The men’s national team won the bronze medal at the World Championships in Singapore, winning 16-7 against the gold medalist of the Paris Olympics, Serbia.
The top scorers for the Greek national team were Vangelis Puros and Stathis Kalogeropoulos with 3 goals.
In the first eight minutes the Greek team scored first, Serbia equalized, but Greece took the lead again with 2-1. Serbia tied the game again and from that point on, Greece went on a 6-0 run to take an 8-2 lead, closing out the first half.
Spain and Hungary will face in the final of the World Championship for the gold medal in the men’s competition.
In the second half, Serbia never threatened to come close in the second half, as the score soon became 10-2 and the third quarter closed with an 11-5 lead, keeping a safe margin ahead of the fourth and final eighth period.
The last eight minutes seemed to be of a procedural nature, as the difference in goals and the performance of both teams left little to be desired. And so it happened, with Greece reaching victory more easily than perhaps expected before the start of the game, with a 6-goal difference (16-7).
It is the second success of the national polo team, after the gold medal won by the women against Hungary yesterday, while the men’s team reached a total of 17 medals and 5 in World Championships.
