ADEDY is holding a 24-hour nationwide public sector strike today, Tuesday, December 16, 2025, the same day the 2026 budget is being voted on in Parliament.
As decided recently at ADEDY’s 39th Congress, the strike is “against the budget of the New Democracy government.”
At the same time, full solidarity is expressed with the farmers’ protests and the roadblocks they have set up across the country, with calls for participants to take to the streets for demonstrations organized by federations, labor centers, and unions.
The Panhellenic Federation of Local Government Employees (POE-OTA), in a statement, called on all employees to join the 24-hour nationwide strike and the protest gathering at Syntagma Square at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece (KEDE) is proceeding with a symbolic closure of municipalities across the country, also calling local government officials to the protest outside Parliament on the same day.
No work stoppages have been announced today for public transport, although bus employees will hold a work stoppage tomorrow.
The Federation of Secondary Education Officials (OLME) confirmed that educators will participate in ADEDY’s 24-hour strike, explicitly denying reports to the contrary.
Participation in the nationwide strike on December 16 was also announced by the Union of Doctors of Athens-Piraeus Hospitals (EINAP) as well as Athens court staff.
For today, Tuesday, December 16, no work stoppages have been announced for urban transport, but route adjustments will be in place due to the demonstrations at Syntagma, both at 11:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
It is noted that, regardless of Tuesday’s strike, bus employees will hold a work stoppage on Wednesday, December 17, to allow the Election and General Assembly to take place.
