A new wave of bomb threats has disrupted air travel across Europe, affecting at least 15 flights today (5 November 2026), including two Aegean Airlines flights from Thessaloniki to Milan and from Athens to Vienna.

In France, an Aer Lingus flight from Dublin to Rome was diverted to Évreux Air Base on government orders. In Italy, fighter jets escorted a Finnair flight from Helsinki to Rome’s Fiumicino Airport, where security checks found nothing suspicious.

In Bulgaria, MiG-29 fighter jets were deployed in response to threats involving three Ryanair flights to Sofia, one of which was diverted to Plovdiv. Meanwhile, a Wizz Air flight from Milan to Warsaw landed in Vienna, while nearly 200 passengers were evacuated from another aircraft operated by the airline in Bucharest. In Prague, security checks on four aircraft found no explosives.

Two flights bound for Rome received bomb threats via emails signed by “Fighters of the Male State”, although the authenticity of the messages remains under investigation.

Two days earlier (3 November 2026), seven flights had received similar threats. A LOT flight from Heathrow to Warsaw, carrying 181 people, was diverted to Modlin, temporarily suspending airport operations. A Ryanair flight from Manchester underwent security checks in Murcia, Spain, while two aircraft were inspected in Rome and another two in Sofia, among other incidents. No explosive devices were found.

According to Italian airport authorities, threats against two flights bound for Rome were sent in emails signed by the self-proclaimed group “Fighters of the Male State”. The authenticity of the messages has not been confirmed.

Although no country has claimed responsibility for the incidents, they come at a time when European officials have accused both Russia and Iran of carrying out “hybrid attacks”. European authorities are investigating whether the threats were coordinated, but no connection between the incidents or involvement by any particular state has been established so far.
