Fourteen poetic voices will come together at the new Stoa Arsakeiou on Saturday, September 26, for an evening under the full moon.
Synastry continues its journey through Athens. Following events at the National Observatory of Athens, the National Library of Greece at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center and the Eugenides Foundation Planetarium, the next stage of the Synastry Art Project moves to the heart of the city.
On Saturday, September 26, fourteen prominent voices in contemporary Greek poetry will gather at the new Stoa Arsakeiou to read poems they have written and selected for Synastry.
The evening begins at 18:30, with free admission, and marks the poetic culmination of a project that has sought from the outset to bring different paths together: visual art and poetry, science and art, the observation of the sky and the human need to tell stories, interpret and find meaning in the world around us.
Fourteen poetic paths
Fourteen distinct poetic paths, spanning different generations and writing styles, come together to form a shared poetic constellation. The poems explore the sky, light and darkness, time, memory, distance, human presence and humanity’s enduring need to find its place in the world.
The participating poets are Giorgos Veis, Haris Vlavianos, Myrsini Gana, Anna Griva, Nikos Erinakis, Giannis Efstathiadis, Lena Kallergi, Maria Koulouri, Dimitra Kotoula, Maria Patakia, Titos Patrikios, Maria Topali, Thanasis Hatzopoulos and Dimitra Christodoulou.
Their gathering at the new Stoa Arsakeiou brings poetry off the page and into the life of the city for one evening. The poets themselves will give voice to their work and meet the public in a space where people pass through and gather, and where different paths cross every day.
The event is coordinated by the Free Thinking Zone bookshop, helping to bring together the fourteen poetic voices of Synastry for an evening dedicated to contemporary poetry.
From poetry to the full moon
The poetry evening forms part of the Synastry Art Project, which takes place across different venues in Athens, connecting art, poetry, science and music.
As daylight fades, Synastry will move from poetry to music and from the arcade to the sky.
Later that evening, the atrium of Stoa Arsakeiou will host Full Moon — Lunar Soundscape, a musical event dedicated to September’s full moon. Telescopes will also be available for free public observation of the Moon, once again connecting what lies above the city with what happens within it.
An evening when poetry, music and the night sky come together in central Athens.
The main sponsor of Synastry is PPC (DEI), supporting a project that brings art, poetry and science into creative dialogue and creates new opportunities for public engagement. With a longstanding commitment to culture and contemporary artistic creation, PPC supports initiatives and artists who broaden cultural experiences and open up new avenues for expression and communication. Believing in art’s power to inspire, connect and motivate, PPC continues its #metonPolitismo initiative, supporting efforts that contribute to a better future.
