The fourth suspect arrested in connection with the attack on the home of New Democracy political candidate Aphrodite Nestora on 1 July, during which her mother, Vagia Nestora, was killed, was also remanded in custody today.

The 25-year-old was arrested last week in Thessaloniki after one of the other three suspects—the owner of the apartment allegedly used by the perpetrators—stated that he had given him the keys, which he then handed over to them. He categorically denies any involvement in the case.

The arrests of the apartment owner and the two individuals alleged to have carried out the attack had preceded his arrest.

The four suspects are charged, among other offences, with homicide with possible intent, participation in a terrorist organisation, causing an explosion, possession of explosives, and arson.

At the time, in addition to the specific arson attack involving improvised incendiary devices, two other attacks took place: one targeting the home of Zisis Ioakeimovits, President of New Democracy’s Thessaloniki Administrative Committee, and another targeting the home of former MP Savvas Anastasiadis. The three attacks occurred within minutes of one another.

In the case of the attack on Aphrodite Nestora’s home, an explosive device was placed underneath her car, causing a fire that spread and ultimately led to the death of her mother.

The four suspects who have been arrested and remanded in custody are charged, among other offences, with homicide with possible intent, participation in a terrorist organisation, causing an explosion, possession of explosives, and arson, according to Kathimerini. The investigation by the Counter-Terrorism Service is ongoing.
