Alexis Tsipras is expected to officially announce the creation of his new political party on May 26, although the name of the new political formation has not yet been revealed. The party’s founding declaration and official website are expected to be published on the same day.

In a social media post, following his statements over the previous two days, Tsipras wrote: “Now is the time. Neither too early nor too late.”

According to News247, the former prime minister has clarified that the new party will not initially have a parliamentary group, meaning he neither expects nor seeks to attract sitting MPs.

At the same time, SYRIZA president Sokratis Famellos expelled Pavlos Polakis from the party’s parliamentary group, with Polakis accusing him of doing so “without any justification.”

Meanwhile, within the week, the founding declaration of Maria Karystianou’s party is expected to be formally submitted to the Supreme Court. Karystianou is planning to officially present her positions on Thursday, May 21, during a central event in Thessaloniki.

A livestream broadcast from the Kolonaki law office of her close associate, Maria Gratsia, became the focal point of yesterday’s mobilization, as citizens arrived to read and co-sign the founding declaration.

Behind the livestream was Stratos Siourdakis, businessman and president of the Greek Community of Saint Petersburg. Also present was veteran Moscow correspondent and journalist Thanasis Avgerinos, who, according to reports, is expected to assume the role of party spokesperson.

The stated goal of the new party’s organizers is to gather more than 70,000 signatures in support of the founding declaration by the end of June.
