Reactions and political implications arose after the decision of the Supreme Court to place the wiretapping case in the archive, with the Opposition preparing a request for the establishment of an investigative committee.
The president of PASOK, Nikos Androulakis, already announced that in the coming days the Parliamentary Group will submit the request and called on the remaining parties to support it. According to Kathimerini, SYRIZA and New Left are moving in the same direction, while from Communist Party of Greece they state that it is highlighted “that cover-up methods are a constituent element of the bourgeois ‘rule of law’.”
The government responds to the reactions that have been caused that “every attack against justice constitutes problematic behaviour.”
At the same time, contrary to the decision of the Prosecutor who stresses “that there are no new elements,” Zacharias Kesses states that one working day before the decision he informed the Supreme Court of new evidence he would submit and that was not in the case file, while he also informed it of 6 lawsuits that will be made by new persons.
He himself stresses in his post: “Mr. Tzavellas hurried to close the case, fearing the new lawsuits and the new evidence,” he stated characteristically.
One of the most critical points of the criticism concerns the person of Mr. Tzavellas. Mr. Kesses stressed that the prosecutor had a clear impediment and should have declared abstention, as during the disputed period he was supervising prosecutor of EYP and was the one who had signed the surveillance of journalist Thanasis Koukakis.
