Former President Donald Trump proposed three dates for a debate with Vice President Kamala Harris in September, confirming his intention to face the Democratic presidential nominee this fall.
During a press conference in Florida, Trump repeatedly mispronounced Harris’s first name called her “low IQ,” and labeled her as “far-left.” While Trump answered journalists’ questions, ABC confirmed it would host the debate between the two candidates on September 10.
The former president’s first public appearance since Harris’s presidential candidacy was confirmed. Trump insisted that voter intentions have not changed much despite polls showing a close race and the Democrats drawing tens of thousands of supporters to campaign events in swing states.
Swing states are crucial in elections because they do not consistently vote for either Republican or Democratic candidates.
Not used to seeing the media focusing more on the Democrats than on him, Trump tried again to draw attention to himself.
He accused Harris of being unable to give media interviews, something she has not done since announcing her candidacy, and insisted that he attracts larger crowds to his events.
As usual, his speech was filled with lies and inaccuracies. He incorrectly accused the Democrats of violating the Constitution by replacing President Biden on the ballot and claimed that no one died in the Capitol riots despite several fatalities, including one of his supporters.
