Greece is among the top destinations for in vitro fertilization, as women come from all continents, says “K”.
The legal framework is simpler than in other countries, combined with the fact that in Greece the procedure is among the cheapest (€3500) in Europe and close to the most popular ones (e.g. India €2200, Turkey €2700).
In the evaluations, for most Greek private clinics, the comments are mainly from foreign clients, while on social media there are pages and closed groups that concern specifically assisted reproduction in Greece, in which women from abroad talk about the clinics.
One cycle includes: hormone therapy for the stimulation of the ovaries, egg retrieval, fertilization in the laboratory and transfer of the embryo to the uterus.
As one woman explains in “K”, through such a page she found the second clinic she visited in Greece, as with her husband they had initially gone to London, her four cycles there were unsuccessful and they were not satisfied with the services. For the preimplantation genetic testing of each embryo they were asking £3,000. They examined their options between Czechia, Spain, Turkey and Greece, however in most lists they found online, a Greek clinic seemed to be the best.
In 2022 (latest record) in Greece 42,558 IVF cycles and 7,216 births took place, while, although there is no record for women from abroad, they are estimated to be in the thousands.
