The Region of Attica seized approximately 3.5 tons of unsuitable meat intended for public institutions, including hospitals, as the products were expired, unlabeled, and showed signs of thawing and refreezing.
Storage conditions were deemed dangerous, while it was found that the facility was operating without the required approvals.
The inspection was carried out following an anonymous complaint, which led to an operation by the Hellenic Police in the presence of a prosecutorial authority, as the owner refused to cooperate with the competent authorities in opening the storage facility.
Signs of thawing and refreezing in frozen food are critical for consumer safety, as they promote the growth of microbes.
The company had made successive changes to its tax ID, headquarters, business activity, and responsible parties -a practice that significantly hinders effective control and full oversight of its operations.
In December 2025, authorities seized 12 tons of rotten meat, cheese, and vegetables intended for the market ahead of Christmas, while in February, ahead of Tsiknopempti, another 4,780 kilograms of unsuitable meat were confiscated. In addition to the seizure of the products, case files are being formed and criminal prosecutions are being brought against those responsible.
Consuming meat beyond its expiration date or stored under improper refrigeration conditions may lead to serious food poisoning, bacterial infections such as salmonellosis and listeriosis, and even hospitalization for vulnerable groups.
