The president of the Hellenic Basketball Federation (EOK), V. Liolios, and five others were arrested yesterday in connection with alleged match-fixing and bribery.
The investigation concerns 50 basketball games played between 2016 and 2026, ranging from top-division matches to youth and school championships.
Messages uncovered during the investigation reportedly contain discussions about manipulating matches, allegations of bribery and accounts from individuals claiming to know how the match-fixing scheme operated. In one message included in the case file, an individual allegedly asks a team official, “Who do you want me to foul out with five fouls?”

Those arrested include referee Vaso Tsaroucha, former referees Ilias Koromilas, Tasos Piloidis, a member of the Central Refereeing Committee, and Petros Papapetrou, at whose home €820,000 was reportedly found, as well as businessman Giorgos Mavraganis. All six are due to appear before an investigating judge at the Evelpidon courts today.
According to Kathimerini, the arrest warrants were issued by an investigating judge with the approval of the sports prosecutor and executed by the police unit responsible for combating violence at sporting events.
The warrants were reportedly issued because the individuals remained active in basketball and authorities believed there was a risk they could continue their alleged illegal activities.
