Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine is once again receiving early warnings from the US about Russian ballistic missile attacks, a week after the intelligence sharing was suspended.
The announcement followed a meeting between Zelenskyy and US envoy Steve Witkoff in Norway. Witkoff is also scheduled to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin today. According to a US official who spoke to Reuters, the American envoy will seek to “pave the way for direct trilateral and broader multilateral negotiations.”
Last week, Trump announced an energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, but it was never observed in practice.
The Ukrainian president said the warnings were “very important for our people, for children, adults and civilians, because we can know when ballistic missiles are approaching. That is why we are grateful to the American side.”
The development comes amid severely strained relations between the US and Ukraine, with Trump reiterating that Zelenskyy should have reached an agreement to end the war.
Trump has accused Zelenskyy of failing to end the war and has said Ukraine needs a new leader. Yesterday, he again suggested that the Ukrainian president was the main obstacle to reaching an agreement.
“We want Zelenskyy to make a deal. He can do it. He could have made a deal two years ago,” Trump said.
