Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered the country’s attorney general and the head of the Shin Bet internal security agency to disclose the identities of soldiers and officers interviewed for the investigative documentary NAZA.

Netanyahu is seeking criminal prosecutions for alleged “serious breaches of information security, criminal defamation, and harm to Israel’s diplomatic and security interests.”

The award-winning documentary, directed by Oscar-winning filmmakers Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor and produced by The Guardian, examines the mass killing of civilians by Israeli forces in Gaza.

“NAZA” is an acronym used by Israeli intelligence to estimate the number of civilians who will be killed in IDF strikes.

In particular, it investigates how the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) authorize strikes against military targets in Gaza despite knowing in advance that they will result in civilian deaths.

The film is being screened in cinemas across Greece and more than 50 countries, including the United Kingdom and the United States.

NAZA premiered last month at the Venice International Film Festival, where it received the Special Jury Prize after reportedly drawing the longest standing ovation in the festival’s history.

Its title is derived from an acronym used by Israeli intelligence to refer euphemistically to the estimated number of civilians expected to be killed in an IDF airstrike.
