Labour and Social Security Minister Niki Kerameus presented a new remote work program aimed at supporting mountainous, hard-to-reach and remote areas, speaking on MEGA.
“The idea is that this person stays where they live but can also work, and if they prove their value, the company will keep them afterwards,” Kerameus said. She added that the program also provides an incentive for businesses to prioritize hiring workers from these areas.
The program links remote work with the ability of workers to remain in their home regions, while supporting employment in hard-to-reach and remote areas.
The program links remote work with the ability of workers to remain in their home regions.
Specifically, the program will subsidize 90% of wages and social security contributions for registered unemployed people from hard-to-reach or remote areas for one year.
The subsidy will be provided to businesses that hire unemployed people from these areas for remote work, offering an incentive for people to remain in their home regions, Kerameus explained.
The expectation is that businesses receiving the subsidy will retain the employees after the first year.
