Applications for the DiscoverEU programme open today at 1 p.m. for young people born between May 1 and December 31, 2008, meaning those who have already turned 18 or will do so in 2026.
DiscoverEU is an Erasmus+ initiative that gives young people the opportunity to travel across Europe.
The programme is aimed at young people who have recently turned 18, allowing them to experience different European countries, cultures and cities. In addition to a travel pass, participants receive a DiscoverEU discount card, offering discounts on accommodation, cultural activities, sports, local transport and other services.
Applicants must be citizens of an EU member state or another eligible country associated with Erasmus+, such as Turkey or North Macedonia.
Those selected can travel alone or in groups of up to five people between March 1, 2027 and May 31, 2028. The travel pass can be used for up to seven travel days within a period of up to one month, covering as many countries as participants wish.
Around 40,000 travel passes are expected to be awarded to young people across Europe in this round. Travel will be mainly by train, with alternative forms of transport available for those living on islands or in remote areas.
Applicants must be citizens or legal residents of an EU member state or another eligible country associated with Erasmus+, including Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia and Turkey.
