According to the 2021–2022 Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) survey, 4.8% of 11-year-old students in Cyprus reported having used an e-cigarette at least once.
The figure rises to 16.2% among 13-year-olds and 38.2% among 15-year-olds.
Education Minister A. Michaelidou said the data provide an important benchmark for monitoring e-cigarette use among students and underscore the importance of early and systematic prevention.
Cyprus took part in the survey for a second time in December 2025 and January 2026, but the results are not yet available.
The Ministry of Education contributes to the implementation of the 2021–2028 National Strategy for Addressing Addictions, in cooperation with the Cyprus National Addictions Authority (AAEK) and other relevant bodies.
According to the minister, the ministry’s efforts focus on prevention and discouraging children and adolescents from starting to use nicotine, tobacco and vaping products. They also focus on developing personal and social skills, strengthening critical thinking, creating a positive and safe school environment, and identifying and supporting children with greater needs or vulnerabilities at an early stage.
