Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis presented MedWatch, a new tool that will use AI to identify suspicious practices at private medical practices and other businesses, such as beauty centers.
The press conference was also attended by Matina Pagoni, president of the temporary steering committee of the Panhellenic Medical Association, and Giorgos Patoulis, president of the Athens Medical Association.
MedWatch scans licensed medical practices registered in the Athens Medical Association’s digital registry and cross-checks the information against doctors’ social media posts, advertisements, websites and other online content.
MedWatch was piloted from September 14 to 18. Of 8,563 facilities screened in Attica, 231 – including 160 non-medical entities and 50 medical practices – will be investigated for suspicious practices.
The tool categorizes its findings according to their potential severity and automatically initiates a review by the Athens Medical Association. MedWatch is expected to become available nationwide within the next 10 days.
During its pilot phase, from September 14 to 18, 2026, the tool screened 8,563 facilities in Attica. Of these, 231 – including 160 non-medical entities and 50 medical practices – will be investigated for suspicious practices.
An app is also expected to be available by the end of the month, allowing citizens to check whether a doctor they visit is licensed.
