Neos Kosmos ranks third on a list of the world’s 40 coolest neighborhoods for 2026, behind only Jongno 3-ga in Seoul and L’Ocean District in Rabat.
The neighborhood was recognized for retaining its local character, attracting independent businesses and becoming a destination for food and drink, while remaining home to families, students, immigrants, artists and long-time Athenians.
“Plan your trip: Autumn and spring are usually the best times to visit the area, as many events take place outdoors without the summer heat,” Time Out notes.
The 40 neighborhoods were assessed based on food, drink, nightlife, independent businesses, quality of life and a sense of community.
Time Out also highlights the role of the Onassis Stegi, with its exhibitions, performances and public events.
On Ikseon-dong, Time Out notes that it “has long been a social media favorite, with century-old hanok housing themed cafés and restaurants serving cuisines from around the world.”
Of L’Ocean District, it says that it “perfectly captures the character of Rabat, where the Atlantic meets the city. Its waterfront promenade, lined with palm trees, beaches and sports facilities, is a meeting point for local residents.”
