Cyprus has a leading position in the global video game industry, according to the first Cyprus Video Game Industry Report 2025. Per capita, the country ranks first worldwide in the number of video game companies, industry revenue and mobile game downloads.
The report was published by the Cyprus Game Developers Association (CYGMA).
A total of 415 game studios and companies operating in Cyprus generate more than €3 billion in annual gross revenue, placing the country among Europe’s top 10. Cyprus also ranks third in total mobile game downloads.
Employment in the sector rose from 1,438 people in 2019 to 4,320 in 2024, an increase of 200%.
Cyprus’s role as a video game industry hub developed gradually from the 2010s, as studios and companies that had started operating in other countries moved to the island. Growth accelerated significantly over the past five years.
Between 2019 and 2024, the number of registered gaming companies rose from 169 to 393, while employment increased from 1,438 to 4,320. The strongest annual growth came in 2022, when employment rose by 43% and the number of companies by 24.3%.
The report attributes the growth of Cyprus’s gaming industry partly to its strong export focus, as nearly all games produced in the country are aimed at players abroad. It also notes that most studios in Cyprus focus on mobile games.
