Police are investigating a complaint over a possible breach of personal data in connection with references made in journalist Makarios Drousiotis’s book Mafia State, according to Michalis Michael, an officer with the Police Headquarters Communications Branch.
He said the case is separate from the investigation concerning the findings of the Independent Authority Against Corruption, for which criminal investigators have been appointed.
The complaint was filed with the Criminal Investigation Department at Police Headquarters and the investigation is still at an early stage. Members of the department have taken on the case and, according to Michael, statements have already been taken from some individuals.
M. Drousiotis said the Criminal Investigation Department at Police Headquarters had sought statements even from the printer who produced the book, as well as its editor and designer.
Michael said no further information could be provided while the investigation remains ongoing.
He also clarified that the complaint concerns an allegation that personal data had been breached and said that the complaint was filed recently.
The journalist said the new case concerns the book four years after its publication, adding that the Criminal Investigation Department at Police Headquarters had sought statements even from the printer who produced the book, as well as its editor and designer.
