A new femicide took place on Monday afternoon in Drama, with a female police officer as the victim and her husband, also a police officer, as the perpetrator. According to the information available so far, the man allegedly attacked his wife inside their home, fatally injuring her with a knife.
The police were called by the family’s 12-year-old child, who reported that his parents had argued and that his mother was seriously injured in the basement of the house. The woman was taken in critical condition to Drama Hospital, where she died shortly afterward.
The perpetrator was later found dead inside his car, a short distance from the hospital, having shot himself with his service weapon. The couple had two minor children, who are now staying with relatives and are expected to receive psychological support.
2025 was the year with the highest number of femicides in Greece over the last five years, with 19 recorded cases.
According to initial reports, there had been no recorded complaints of domestic violence, while relatives and friends of the woman said that recently the perpetrator had been displaying controlling behavior and extreme jealousy.
This is the sixth femicide of 2026, bringing the total number of femicides since 2020 to 78. 2025 was the year with the highest number of femicides in Greece over the last five years, with 19 recorded cases.
