The eight suspects (six men and two women) allegedly involved in the armed bank robbery in Kato Tithorea, in the region of Phthiotis, were brought before the prosecutor, with Michalis Chrysochoidis describing the group as “highly capable and active,” noting that “they had committed other robberies as well.”
The arrests took place in Alepochori, Loutraki, and Athens after authorities tracked down the suspects and identified a change in their getaway vehicle. In addition to the robbery proceeds (around €200,000), police seized heavy weaponry, including Kalashnikov rifles, a Scorpion-type automatic weapon, four pistols, four grenades, detonators, and ammunition.
More than 3,300 robberies were recorded in Greece in 2024, according to Hellenic Statistical Authority, while 43.9% targeted shops and businesses, according to the Greek police.
The suspects face charges, depending on individual involvement, including forming a criminal organization, armed robberies, aggravated theft, repeated forgery committed jointly, attempted explosion, weapons law violations, and violence against public officials and judicial authorities.
Authorities say the group mainly carried out armed robberies (11 in total) targeting bank branches in both Attica and other regions of Greece, including Papagou, Galatsi, Nea Chalkidona, Nea Ionia, Aigeira, and Katochi. The organization is also linked to an attempted ATM bombing and 15 thefts of cars and motorcycles.
