The alleged gunman who opened fire with a shotgun at around 10:30 a.m. at an EFKA office in Kerameikos and shortly afterwards at the Athens Court of Appeal on Loukareos remains at large. The suspect is an 89-year-old scrap collector, who injured one EFKA employee and four court employees at the court. All are reported to be out of danger.

The employee was wounded in his right leg, and police officers had to apply a tourniquet to stop the bleeding. He was taken to Red Cross Hospital and, according to initial reports, his condition is considered stable. The four injured women were also transferred to Red Cross Hospital and are said to be out of danger.

According to reports by ERT, authorities have located the suspect’s weapon.

According to eyewitnesses, the man was thin and wearing a trench coat, with his face uncovered. After entering the fourth floor of the EFKA office, he reportedly pulled the shotgun from beneath the coat where it had been concealed, inserted the barrel through the opening at the service counter, and began firing.

He is then believed to have travelled by taxi from Kerameikos to Ampelokipoi. While leaving the Court of Appeal, he reportedly left behind two envelopes of unknown contents, saying they contained the reasons for his actions. He also left behind his weapon, which is now in the possession of the authorities.
