The investigating judge of Trikala decided the exercise of criminal prosecutions against the director of the factory “Violanta” and the head of production, for the explosion that caused the death of 5 workers.
The two executives face serious charges for direct complicity in explosion with possible intent, manslaughter by negligence in series and causing bodily harm in series. At the same time, according to the report of the National Technical University of Athens, it is found that there was corrosion and oxidation in the underground pipe from which the propane leak occurred, while according to the investigating judge the two executives seem to have known about it.
Moreover, from the testimonies of the workers of the factory it resulted that there was a smell long before the deadly explosion, about which they had informed, however, without the necessary actions being taken.
The first two are accused among others of manslaughter by negligence in series and causing bodily harm in series.
The report of the National Technical University of Athens that came today to publicity states characteristically that irregularities were found in the connection of the underground pipe with a threaded connection, something that is prohibited by international and Greek standards for underground piping and there we had corrosion and oxidation.
The two accused received deadline to apologize again on 27 April. At the same time, the owner of the factory was called for supplementary testimony, who is temporarily detained in the prisons of Trikala, and he received deadline to apologize on 22 April.
The criminal prosecution against the owner of “Violanta” had been exercised in February and then he had been judged pre-trial detained.
