Bad weather “ERMINIO”: One dead and problems in Attica

  1. One dead and many problems in Attica (especially in Eastern Attica), Peloponnese, islands of the Aegean and Crete were caused by the bad weather “ERMINIO”, with heavy rains and very strong winds.
  2. The man lost his life as he came out of the flooded basement in which he lived in Nea Makri, was swept away by the rushing waters and was trapped under a vehicle.
  3. The bad weather will continue also today, mainly in Macedonia, Thrace, Crete, Evia, Peloponnese, Magnesia and islands of the Sporades and the Aegean.

One dead and many problems in Attica, Peloponnese, islands of the Aegean and Crete were caused by the bad weather “ERMINIO”, with heavy rains and very strong winds. As regards Attica, the problems were recorded mainly in areas such as Nea Makri, Stamata, Dionysos, Rafina and Pikermi.

The man lost his life as he came out of the flooded basement in which he lived in Nea Makri, was swept away by the rushing waters and was trapped under a vehicle. The fire service forces recovered him without consciousness and then he was transported by ambulance to the hospital.

Until this morning, the Fire Service has received 674 calls for provision of assistance in Attica, Peloponnese, North Aegean, South Aegean and Crete.

In Eastern Attica the most serious problems are recorded, mainly around Penteli. The phenomena escalated after 23:00, while initially the fire service forces were carrying out mainly tree cuttings in the southern suburbs. After midnight however the calls increased significantly and until the early morning hours they reached 483.

Of these calls, 191 concerned tree cuttings, 168 water pumpings, 91 removals of objects and 33 rescues of persons. In total, from yesterday until the morning, the Operations Center received 674 calls for provision of assistance in Attica, Peloponnese, North and South Aegean and Crete.

The bad weather will continue also today, mainly in Macedonia, Thrace, Crete, Evia, Peloponnese, Magnesia and islands of the Sporades and the Aegean.
