No issue of corruption arises regarding contributions to the DISY party from people who were naturalized as Cypriots, according to the Independent Authority Against Corruption.
The investigation began after a complaint by AKEL MP Ch. Christofidis, in which 13 natural persons are named, foreigners, who secured Cypriot citizenship and who appear to have, either themselves or through companies they controlled themselves, made contributions to DISY.
As the competent Authority notes, for none of those naturalized had, during the investigation, any order been issued depriving them of the status of citizen of the Republic of Cyprus, nor was any process underway to deprive them of their Cypriot citizenship.
A total of 8 hearings were conducted, 16 witnesses testified, and a total of 73 exhibits were submitted.
There is no testimony from which it emerges that the naturalization of the persons under investigation took place due to a promise or offer, present or future, and by extension due to the granting of an unjustified advantage by the naturalized persons to public servants and/or officials, through the contributions to DISY, so as to create suspicion of the commission of corruption offenses.
As regards the housing of the Russian bank PROMSVYAZBANK in the building that was purchased from the (seller) company Y.A.M. IMPERIO ENTERPRISES LTD, it emerges that there is no testimony from which it emerges that this specific sale and purchase took place due to a promise or offer, present or future, and by extension due to the granting of an unjustified advantage by the purchasing company and the subsequently naturalized persons (who were connected with the Russian bank PROMSVYAZBANK) to public servants and/or officials, through this specific sale and purchase, so as to create suspicion of the commission of corruption offenses.
On the occasion of the findings of the Independent Authority Against Corruption, a new clash broke out between DISY and AKEL.
