Today, Tuesday, December 2, and tomorrow, Wednesday, December 3, taxis across the country are on strike due to the 48-hour warning strike organized by the Panhellenic Federation of Professional Taxi Drivers (POEITA).
The action began at 6:00 a.m. and is expected to conclude in the early hours of Thursday, December 4. Other transportation services are operating normally, while the Federation seeks, through the strike, to pressure the government to provide solutions to a series of demands expressed by the sector.
At the core of the demands is the extension of mandatory electric vehicle adoption until 2035, as well as addressing “unfair competition” from multinational ride-hailing apps.
POEITA also raises issues related to pending matters in the Ministry of Transport’s draft law on taxis, the fare system, and the sector’s tax treatment.
They are also calling for measures to prevent work being taken from licensed taxis by private vehicles, adjustments to time-based fares and minimum fees nationwide, as well as a review of the framework governing taxi access to dedicated lanes while carrying passengers.
Additionally, POEITA highlights issues linked to pending matters in the Ministry of Transport’s draft law (which included specific provisions for the sector), the fare system, and tax treatment.
The Federation calls on associations and drivers to participate massively, emphasizing that the government’s stance will determine the further course of the mobilizations.
