On the occasion of the presentation of the book Ithaca, Alexis Tsipras yesterday pre-announced the founding of a new party, referring to the need for a “new Metapolitefsi” in the country, which will bring to the forefront “new political formations.”
“Today I will also speak about the need for a New Metapolitefsi. Not in the sense of changing the Constitution, or much less the Polity. But in the sense of a great political Big Bang that will radically rearrange today’s political balances and bring new political formations to the forefront,” he said.
Although he did not make a nominal reference to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, he attacked the government saying, among other things, that they are “the ones who bankrupted the country, handed it over to the mercy of the creditors, drove unemployment to 27%, destroyed a quarter of the economy.”
According to reports, on its first day of release, Ithaca sold more than 33,000 copies.
“We took the ship broken, a bankrupt country with empty coffers and a mountain of debt, and despite the storms we managed to reach Ithaca,” he said at another point.
However, he also fired shots at the progressive opposition, emphasizing that “today, unfortunately, what dominates the progressive space is not the concern for producing an alternative plan, nor even the anxiety for changing the current government. But the concern and anxiety over who will be first in the village,” he commented.
As for the trinity of the new party, it is “Self-organization – Re-establishment – Revival,” said the former prime minister.
