Farmers’ mobilizations continue, as a nationwide meeting is being considered for Saturday following the announcement by 18 farmers’ roadblocks that called for the start of dialogue with the government, prompting reactions from other roadblocks.
“The situation prevailing, by common admission of the entire Greek society and not only that of the farmers, requires the immediate resolution of problems of vital importance, as these have been presented to the government today,” the farmers’ announcement states, among other things.
“Now, even with delay, more and more representatives of the farmers’ mobilizations appear to recognize the need to come to the dialogue table. This is an encouraging development,” the government responded through its spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis.
The government, through spokesperson P. Marinakis, described the announcement by the 18 as encouraging and once again called for dialogue.
In the previous days, major delays were recorded on the roads, although farmers had removed their tractors from the roadway, mainly along the Athens–Lamia axis and in the areas of Martino and Bralos, where drivers remained immobilized for hours.
It is characteristic that drivers describe traveling from Athens to Thessaloniki and vice versa in approximately 11 hours.
Regarding the new mobilizations, among other actions, today from 16:00 to 19:00 farmers at the Nikaia roadblock will proceed with the closure of the side roads of the Athens–Thessaloniki national highway, while they will also close side roads and the service road of the old Larisa–Volos national highway. In addition, at Malgara, farmers will close both directions of the PATHE motorway at 12 noon.
