The Trump administration presented at the Peace Council in Davos a $25 billion plan for the reconstruction of Gaza, which includes building skyscrapers and new cities over a 3-year period.
Jared Kushner, Donald Trump’s son-in-law, stated that his “overall plan” aims for a “catastrophic success.”
Gaza will be rebuilt in phases, he said, starting from the south. The southern city of Rafah, which Israel largely destroyed during the war, will be rebuilt over two to three years, he added.
The “Peace Council” for ending the war in Gaza was presented in Davos, with participation from only 18 countries (including Hungary and Bulgaria from the EU).
However, the plan remains hypothetical, as Hamas has not yet agreed to surrender its weapons under the ceasefire agreement, according to The New York Times. At the same time, the United States has not persuaded countries to contribute troops to the peacekeeping force in Gaza, as the agreement also stipulates.
Kushner presented the plan during a meeting in a conference room in Davos for the official installation of Trump’s “Peace Council,” which, according to the president last year, will help oversee both the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and the reconstruction of Gaza.
Only 18 countries participated in the “Peace Council,” and just two from the European Union: Hungary and Bulgaria.
