A Viber group with more than 170,000 members titled “Alarm Moto..!!” that posted alerts about traffic-police breathalyzer checkpoints was shut down, and its two administrators were arrested.

The two administrators, aged 29 and 55, are charged with incitement to commit crimes and with dangerous interference with road traffic. The first is alleged to have acted as the group’s “Super Admin,” while the second served as “Admin.”

Members of the group sent messages in the chat such as “Syntagma, breathalyzer test, they’re stopping everyone,” in order to warn other drivers to avoid passing through if they were driving after exceeding the legal alcohol limit.

They had also created a similar profile on Instagram, with low activity, which counted just 5,602 followers.

The investigation into the case began in July 2025 following an order by the Athens Prosecutor’s Office. According to the probe, members’ posts were not confined to checkpoints but covered the presence of police forces more generally (e.g., OPKE), while the Super Admin of “Alarm Moto..!!” was also an administrator of two other groups for the same purpose in Crete (25,000 members) and Thessaloniki (3,000 members).

The 170,000-member group had a “basic condition”: to post only where there was a checkpoint, with no questions and no commentary. They also planned to upgrade their operation, noting in a post that they would soon launch their own “official application.”
